Description
Identify the signs of human trafficking and how to comply with laws to reduce the threat.
Human trafficking, also referred to as modernday slavery, is a complex crime that impacts people worldwide. Both sex and labor trafficking impact many businesses and communities in various ways. The problem is that human trafficking may take many forms and is often difficult to identify. Still, today, there is an unprecedented interest in the private sectors role in antihuman trafficking efforts. The RussiaUkraine war and the COVID19 pandemic have brought concerns about human trafficking to the forefront amid sensitivity to displaced persons, labor shortages, and vulnerable workforces. These factorscombined with a growing public interest in environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues such as socially responsible investingunderscore an increased awareness in antihuman trafficking efforts. In addition, enforcement priorities and civil litigation trends in the U.S. have begun to demonstrate more focus on human trafficking in areas affecting private companies as well as communities.
This presentation will help persons in the hotel industry and other private sector roles learn more about human trafficking, state and federal laws, general caselaw updates impacting the private sector, human trafficking indicators that help identify human trafficking, and what you can do to comply with laws and regulations related to human trafficking to minimize risk.
